Five persons including Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President
Mahinda Rajapaksa, appeared before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court today.
Directors of the CSN TV channel, Nishantha Ranatunga, Rohan Welivita, Ashan Ravinath Fernando and Kavishan Dissanayake, appeared in court on Thursday, along with Yoshitha Rajapaksa.
Police requested court today to issue an order on the chairman of the organisation, to provide a report to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division, on stock market investments by the five suspects including Yoshitha Rajapaksa, and also requested that a warrant be issued in English, for the 6th and 10th suspects.
The police also requested court to issue an order for the five passports held by Yoshitha Rajapaksa to be presented to the FCID and submitted that the suspects had made false statements in this regard.
Police also requested court to order the Director General of Customs to conduct an investigation into the import of an Outdoor Broadcast Vehicle, and two luxury vehicles belonging to CSN, which were allegedly imported at a low price, without paying the relevant customs duties.
Police submitted further that, communications equipment of the CSN channel, were affixed on the Kokavil tower on the orders of a former Chairman of the Rupavahini Corporation Mohan Samaranayake, adding that there was no legal agreement for this task.
Noting that payments were made to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation for the use of communications towers via an account under the name of the Organisation to protect CSN, the police requested court for authorisation to investigate how funds were transferred to this account.
Attorneys representing the suspects voiced objections over the declaration of assets pertaining to the case, in open court.
The suspects also agreed to appear before the FCID whenever they are required to do so.The acting magistrate asked the police to make submissions to the magistrate regarding several submissions made today, on May 5.
