Payagala Police officer arrested for allegedly obtaining bribe

An officer attached to Payagala Police Station has been

arrested for allegedly extorting a bribe of Rs.10,000.  Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said that suspect officer was arrested by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of  Bribery or Corruption at around 11.30 on Saturday.

Police said that the suspect had obtained the bribe promising to not press charges against a three wheeler driver who was involved in a motor accident.
